MCU News Update

There has been a lot of MCU news in the last week, so I decided to give you a quick update of where the current MCU productions are.
Let’s start with the biggest news. The recent Sony e-mail hack has revealed that there have indeed been on-going talks between Marvel and Sony about Spider-Man joining the MCU. We now know the current status of these talks is in the advanced stages. According to the e-mails, Marvel wants to recast the role and introduce their new Spider-Man in the 2016 movie, Captain America: Civil War, or even as soon as May 2015 in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The talks also mentioned the Russo Brothers, the writers and directors of several MCU films, writing new solo films that would NOT include another origin story. That part I really like. We’ve had two different Spider-Man franchises tell us the origin story, albeit with minor differences. That means when we were to first meet Peter Parker, he would already have his abilities. There is a meeting scheduled between Sony and Marvel in January where this is rumored to be finalized and announced next month.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just had its second season mid-season finale. ( I will be posting a first half recap shortly as well.) Taking its slot Tuesday nights on ABC will be Marvel’s Agent Carter. This show takes place in the 1940’s after World War 2. It tells the story of the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Peggy Carter and Howard Stark. The Marvel One Shot*, “Agent Carter, which was featured on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray, is the prequel to the show. Agent Carter will begin its 8 episode run in January.
The latest casting for the MCU’s Netflix series is that of Krysten Ritter. She will be the lead on the Netflix show, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. That only leaves us without a casting for Iron Fist.

It’s a good time to be a geek. Until next time!

*I just realized I hadn’t mentioned the Marvel One-Shots. These short films are part of the MCU and are featured on DVD and Blu-Ray releases.
