A basic robot toolbox

I'm very excited to learn about robotics.  The best way to learn about robotics, or anything for that matter,  is to actually do it, and it in this case is building a robot.  So I will now attempt to build a simple robot, just to get my feet wet.  My goal is to start off by building a nice and easy  robot that I can easily modify.  I guess I have to decide if I want to build one from...

Robotics!

OK, I think I've caught it. No, I'm not talking about some kind of disease, I'm talking about the robot bug. I'm a mechanical engineering student with a background in aerospace, so naturally I'm interested in mechanics. But I'm also becoming very interested in programming and electronics, so the idea of learning about and designing a robot would a perfect way for me to gain more knowledge and experience in these fields. In my mechanical engineering studies, I am constantly...

3-D Printing

A couple of nights ago I was catching up a bit on some recorded Big Bang Theory episodes when it came up again, 3-D printing. Howard and Raj made action figures of themselves with a 3D printer, which they got for $5,000. Then I started thinking, it seems I am hearing more and more about 3-D printing everyday. I haven’t seen it yet in person, but, it looks as if this is something that isn’t going away, so I figured...

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)

There’s been a lot of negativity regarding George Lucas’s prequel trilogy.  I think a lot of that is due to high expectations.  I liked all three movies, not as much as the original trilogy, but they held their own.  A lot of the talk of Episode One was the quality of the story.  I don’t get it though.  If you remember, when you first start a story you have to establish characters and give a hint of where we're going...

The Dark Night (2008)

The whole “comic-book movie” genre was redefined in 2008 with the release of The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins.  Not only this more dramatic and compelling than most comic book movies, it’s just plain better.  I wouldn’t classify it as a comic-book movie, but as a crime thriller featuring comic book characters.  I’ve always been more of a Marvel Comics fan, but DC Comics takes the cake as far as movies go with this one. Christian bale reprises...

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

After watching Iron Man, my “geek” senses were sharp and I was looking forward to Marvel’s second movie as it’s own studio, without having to change their vision for a high powered mega-studio like Fox or Warner Bros.  The announcement was made that the second film would be another Hulk movie, this time called The Incredible Hulk.   After the Ang Lee version of The Hulk came out a few years back, the expectations were low.  When it was announced that...
